How
can I obtain the film rights to a book?
Especially if the publisher doesn't answer
my emails?
I am in the process of starting up a production
company. I used to have my own company years
ago but got out of the business back then.
Now I have decided to try it again.

The
publisher is not always the copyright
holder - you can find the name of the
copyright holder through either the catalog
page or the Library of Congress.
How
do I get the film rights to a book when
the author has died, and the book has
been out for 50+ years?

You
would need to research who currently holds
any copyrights. It may be the family or
the original publisher or the copyright
may have been allowed to lapse moving
the book into the realm of "public
domain"
