- Watch Movie Here.

LOVE is a feature documentary which powerfully addresses the most important civil rights issue of the 21st Century, same-sex marriage.  In the film, the narration is used to not only assist the flow of factual information but also to offer words of loving wisdom.  The narrator begins by reminding us three absolute truths; First, Love is the Source of all creation.  Second, Love is the core essence of who we truly are. Third, how Love is expressed in our world is through compassion, kindness, acceptance, and a life lived with grace.

On Election Day 2008, Proposition 8 passed and became law in the state of California and it changed the California Constitution by adding a new section (7.5) to Article 1, which reads, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”   LOVE poignantly illustrates the tremendous impact this law has had on those within the LBGT Community and their families ability to be responsible for and to ultimately provide the same loving care that is automatically offered to those within the heterosexual community.

LOVE features never before seen photos, and footage of gay parades, and protest marches as well as hateful disturbing footage of people who oppose same sex marriage. Followed by compelling interviews with same-sex couples authors, scholars, renowned activists and more. The film opens with the sounds of hateful, bigoted slurs.  The vicious and cruel sounds are immediately silenced by the narrator defining Love; simultaneously, we see joyful images of LGBT Community. The narrator then defines LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) and some other commonly used words referring to those within the gay community.

An estimated 18,000 same-sex weddings took place before the prohibition and these marriages are still valid although the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8. LOVE interviews several of these 18,000 couples and we witness how the love and commitment they have for each other and their children remains true in spite of the intolerance from the federal government and members of society.

Love Knows No Borders, Same-Sex

Thus far, many depictions of the individuals within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community have typically been demonized. LOVE brings clarity to this misconception by showing a humanistic look into lives of same sex couples, their lives and the reality of how Proposition 8 and DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) clearly violates the civil rights of the LGBT. LOVE showcases powerful film clips of Robin Tyler declaring the divorce of the gay community from the Democratic Party and President Obama for not keeping his promise to protect the civil rights of the LGBT Community. These laws deny same-sex couples and their families’ access to more than 1,138 federal rights, protections, and responsibilities automatically granted to married heterosexual couples and their families.

LOVE features historical imagery, tracing the origin of Homosexuality to the Greeks and unforgettable photos from the early 19th century. Professor of History, Robert Dawidoff, from Claremont College gives a brief factual historical overview of the existence of the gay community and sexuality. While Beth Fortman-Brand gives a spiritual overview on the differences of the two-sides those who oppose and those support Proposition 8.  The documentary also includes interviews with parents from PFlag, a Minister from Metropolitan Community Church, and Equality California.  LOVE reminds us of the truth; that there are only two emotions that fuel our perspectives in life; love and fear.

Same-Sex Marriage POLP

The film exposes the underlying motivating truth; that those who are proponents of same-sex marriage are being fueled by the desire to love and be loved.  While those who are opposed to it are being fueled by their limiting fears that ultimately leads to prejudice and bigotry. This is shown by images and stories of individuals who have been murdered simply for being gay. Paul Colichman founder of Here T.V. networks talks about the greatest epidemic affecting the gay community, “self loathing", as Cathy Watt from the Van Ness Recovery House supports his point by addressing the fact that alcohol and drug addiction affects a lot of those in the gay community because of the rejection and shame downloaded by their parents and society.

The loving examples of the gay couples, their families and friends who remain committed, marks the point of no return for same sex marriage.  Regardless of an individual’s sexual orientation, religion, race, nationality, or gender, we all share a common desire to love and be loved in return. The cries of the gay community were silenced for too long and this documentary sheds some light on this issue, by showing that Love has no boundaries.”
